Google today announced a major update to the Google Photos App, upgrading its photo-to-video functionality with the latest VEO 3 AI video generation model.
This update continues to provide stable AI integration across Google's services.
Just a month after photos introduced the ability to convert still images into short clips, this feature features VEO 3 instead of VEO 2, giving you a sharper, smoother, and more realistic result.

Introducing the new creation tab
In addition to the VEO 3 upgrade, Google Photos has also expanded the latest creation tab at the bottom of the app, taking part in photos, collections and searches. This section is the central hub of all creative tools within Google Photos.
To try out the Photo to Video feature:
- [作成]Go to the tab.
- Select the photo you want to animate.
- Choose between two prompts: “subtle moves” for realistic effects, or “I feel lucky” for fun, unpredictable animations.
Google Photos uses VEO 3 to generate 6-second clips. You can save the video or share it directly from the app. Google points out that free users have gained a limited number of generations, while AI Pro and Ultra subscribers enjoy higher limits.
[作成]Tabs go beyond video generation. Also, I'll introduce:
- Remix: Turn your photos into anime, comics, sketches, and even 3D animation styles.
- Highlight Video: Automatically create short reels from photos and clips.
- Collage and Animation: An easy way to group photos together.
Free vs. Gemini App
Google Photos offers 6-second animation with VEO 3, but remains a silent clip. By comparison, the Gemini app allows Pro and Ultra subscribers to generate 8-second clips in audio.
With the arrival of Veo 3 and the new Create Tab, Google Photos has evolved from a basic storage app to a full-fledged creative space.
