Global experts gather at NEHU to explore the impact of AI on business and society

Shillong, June 20: An international conference themed “Contemporary Challenges in Business, Management and Social Sciences in the Era of Artificial Intelligence” was held at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tula Campus on Thursday.

The main objective of the conference was to foster discussion among academics and industry experts in the fields of business, management and social sciences to analyze and understand the evolving business and social environment in the context of artificial intelligence. The event aimed to propose feasible and realistic business models and strategies that can benefit the industry and policymakers, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant economy and society.

Organised by the School of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus in collaboration with North Eastern Management Association (NEMA) and supported by the North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC) of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Shillong, the conference attracted many distinguished delegates. Notable attendees included Mr. Tsering Wangdi, Chancellor, Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan as special guest, Prof. RM Pant, Vice Chancellor, Assam University, Silchar as guest of honour, Prof. PS Shukla, Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong, Dr. Suniludro LS Akoyjam, Conference Organiser and Secretary General, NEMA, Prof. JU Ahmed, Campus Director (i/c), NEHU, Tura Campus and Director, NEMA, Prof. Abhigyan Bhattacharjee, Dean, School of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus.

The conference was attended by Deans, Professors and Researchers from across India including states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttarakhand, along with representatives from all the North Eastern states of India. In addition, international representatives from countries like South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were also present.

The two-day conference aims to bring together academia, industry and practitioners to discuss the impact of AI on various sectors from various perspectives.

Several books were also launched at the inaugural event.

– “Competitiveness of Sualkuchi Silk Products of Assam” by Dr. Dimpal Barali and Dr. Suniludro LS Akoyjam
– “Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction in Rural Banks” by Dr. Chelsea Ch Momin and Prof. JU Ahmed

Addressing the participants through a video message, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said he hoped the conference would provide valuable insights for better utilization of AI in various sectors.
