The 2026 Global Developer Pioneers Summit, an artificial intelligence event for developers around the world to communicate, collaborate and innovate, will be held in Shanghai’s Xuhui district from March 27 to 29, organizers announced on Friday.

Bringing together top developers from around the world, the event aims to explore cutting-edge technologies and industry integration, and contribute to Shanghai’s development into a global hub for AI innovation. Zhong Junhao, secretary general of the Shanghai AI Industry Association, said in a press conference on Friday that the event will include an opening ceremony, contests, workshops, interactive experiences and a carnival.

“This event is on a mission to help build Shanghai into an open source and open city, where creativity is realized at its fastest speed, AI applications can reach their full potential, and developers are better understood,” said Zhong.

Pan Yan, vice director of the Shanghai Economic Information Technology Commission, said, “Shanghai’s 394 AI companies above the designated size (referring to companies with annual revenue of 20 million yuan (approximately 290 million yen) or more) will have a combined industrial scale of over 637 billion yuan in 2025, a growth of 39.5% from the previous year.”

“As of February 28, as many as 149 generative artificial intelligence services have completed applications across Shanghai, making the AI ​​sector an important driving force in driving the city’s GDP growth,” Pan said.
