Google isn't shying away from showing off the Pixel 9 Pro. In a short video posted to X (formerly Twitter), the company gave a glimpse at the Pixel 9 Pro's rear camera and strongly hinted that its Gemini AI assistant will play a big role on the device.
Google will unveil the Pixel 9 Pro at an event in its hometown of Mountain View, California on August 13, where it will also unveil the Pixel 9 and a rumored new foldable phone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google's annual hardware event is a key one for showcasing both the direction of the Pixel lineup and Google's view of how AI will change smartphones. This year's event will take place just before Apple's regular iPhone launch in September, where the company's suite of AI features (known as Apple Intelligence) is also expected to spend a significant amount of time on stage.

Google's video reveals very little about the Pixel 9 Pro other than the new camera bar, which appears to protrude slightly from the back of the device and no longer spans the entire back of the phone. Otherwise, reports from blog MySmartPrice and phone leak regular Steve Hemmerstoffer, who goes by the alias OnLeaks, suggest the Pixel 9 Pro is expected to have a new design with flat sides like the iPhone.
At Google I/O, the company explained that the Gemini assistant will have a larger presence within Android by providing deeper contextual understanding of the content on your phone's screen. Google's Pixel 9 Pro teaser video was Gemini-centric, so it wouldn't be surprising if we hear more about that vision on August 13.
