Artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGpt and Gemini are improving rapidly, and companies are currently developing new agent tools that could replace humans with specific roles. This trend began earlier this year when Openai launched its deep research agent. This was followed by Openai's Codex software engineering agent, and later Google announced its own coding agent, Jules, at I/O 2025.
Despite the arrival of these coding agents and the harsh warning from human CEO Dario Amodei that 50% of all white-collar entry-level jobs can be eliminated within the next 1-5 years, Google CEO Sundar Pichai is optimistic.
Software Engineer Replacement AI Sundar Pichai:
In a recent podcast with Lex Fridman, Pichai said that 30% of all code written on Google uses AI help, but the new technology is freeing humans, and Google plans to hire more software engineers near the mid-term.
“I think it's a few things. I looked at Google and provided various statistics where around 30% of the code uses solutions generated in AI, etc. But it's the most important metric and we'll measure this carefully. How much has the engineering speed increased for AI? Pichai told podcasters.
“Now, the company has achieved a 10% increase in engineering speeds using AI. But we are planning to hire more engineers next year. There are lots of groans, but it's all going hand in hand.” The CEO of the Alphabet has been added.
“If it works, it's hopefully taking a lot of it, making it even more fun to code, giving you more time to create with fellow colleagues, solving problems and brainstorming. That's the chance. Pichai further pointed out.
