Meta executives said at a press event in New York that a select group of advertisers will be invited to try out the tool in a “test playground” the company calls an AI sandbox.
Executives initially declined to say how many advertisers have access to the space, saying only that the group is small.
Meta said it plans to grant access to more advertisers in July and integrate some features into its generic advertising product later this year.
The announcement marks the first forays of Facebook and Instagram owners into rolling out products using generative AI technology that mines vast amounts of historical data to generate new content such as prose, art and software code. It is a thing.
The technology has seen a flurry of interest and investment since Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI launched chatbot ChatGPT in the fall.
Meta’s announcement comes a day after digital advertising’s biggest rival Alphabet-owned Google announced it would begin offering integration of the technology into its search, email and photo products.
