June 5, 2026 (MLN): Engro, a diversified conglomerate with an increasing focus on digital infrastructure and technology-enabled solutions, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Baidu Inc. to explore collaboration opportunities to advance AI capabilities across the region.
According to a press release issued today, the parties said they will leverage Baidu’s full-stack AI capabilities to support the practical application of AI across industries, exploring areas across AI infrastructure, research, talent development, and industry applications.
Mr. Hussein Dawood, Chairman of Engro, emphasized the importance of building future-ready capabilities, saying:

Through this collaboration, we hope to explore opportunities to strengthen AI capabilities, develop talent, and support the implementation of practical solutions that can contribute to long-term economic growth and industrial advancement across the region. ”

Baidu has significant scale with over 655 million monthly active users and is currently transitioning into a leading AI ecosystem provider. Commenting on this momentum, a Baidu representative said: “Our AI applications continue to gain traction across both businesses and individuals, further demonstrating the commercial potential of our AI innovations.”
This collaboration will be facilitated through PaddlePaddle, Baidu’s deep learning framework. Initial research areas include capability development, industrial applications, talent development, and operational integration through four core areas.
- Industrial Research Center: Houses a complete AI stack for localized R&D.
- intelligent industry workshop: Explore practical AI applications across the industrial and manufacturing value chain.
- Talent and innovation training: Provides accredited AI education and certifications approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
- Operations and Service Center: We support the integration of AI into financial, industrial, and business processes.
These initiatives aim to integrate skills development, industrial applications, and research capabilities to support the practical implementation of AI and regional development.
