The AI promoter would like to say that ChatGpt is the fastest growing technology ever. It has achieved 100 million users in five days, and is said to have around 400 million people using it every week. However, promoters don't want to admit that revenue has grown very little and that good “killer” applications have yet to emerge.
Openai admits that it is the largest user of students to report that their students have reported using AI. Nearly 40% of middle and high schools said they adopted it without the teacher's permission to complete the assignment. “Among college students using AI, this figure was almost half. According to an internal analysis published by Openai, ChatGpt helped university students frequently use it to write their papers.”
Negative impact on education?

In other words, students are stakes on the system and easily pass through school. But in reality, they are being played. Their chats are used to train the system while failing to develop the skills necessary to survive in the AI world. One alumni admitted that he was fooled through school using AI and lost internship interviews on Amazon and Meta using AI. He received offers from both.
Some schools round out their use of AI, but many professors use it, making it difficult for schools to convince students that they should not use AI to make assignments. (New York Times) The professor uses it to write emails and papers, to submit social media, to summarise notes.
Worse, Meta uses ChatGpt to talk to her kids about sex on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta platforms. Mark Zuckerberg argues that this will “become a social media future.” (Wall Street Journal)
AI chatbot therapist
Using the Generator AI as a friend or therapist is also popular at all ages. A survey of 1,060 teens aged 13-17 across the United States found that “we found that about three children in four use AI companions,” and that more than half of the teens surveyed were eligible for regular users of AI companions. (Futurism)
The results are not good. “A troublesome number of ChatGpt users, both old and young, have fallen into a state of delusion and delusion after extensive use of Openai bots.” Perhaps they are driven by high-tech sycophantic behavior and a tendency to be flattering, comfortable and difficult for the user. These chats can “culminate in a break between serious real and real world consequences, including marriage and family breakup, unemployment, homelessness, and unwilling stays in voluntary and mental health facilities.” (Futurism)
The more serious applications of the large language model (LLMS) also have a darker side. Writing Internet articles with them has produced what some people call the “enshittification” of the Internet or “Slopaganda”. Financial Times Say: From enshittification to Slop and Slopaganda, many people argue that the internet is declining, and generative AI is contributing to its decline. “The final part of fellowships and ingenuity on the web is being wiped out by the so-called artificial intelligence tide.” He also worries that bad actors can use ChatGpt to create massive posts on almost every topic and political persuasion of dissent in America. (Wall Street Journal)
A negative impact on scientific research
Scientific researchers are also contributing to Slopaganda. Even before LLM, traditional machine learning has made mistakes in over 600 papers in 30 scientific fields. In many cases, the affected papers constitute the majority of the papers being investigated, and in many areas, majority Research on AI-enabled is flawed. ” (AI snake oil)
Image credit: tStudious- One analysis of vocabulary changes in biomedical summaries of over 15 million people from 2010 to 2024 concluded that “at least 13.5% of the 2024 summary were treated with LLM.” (Science) Similarly, Springer Nature Book on Machine Learning is full of organized quotes. (Retraction Watch)
Researchers also use AI to review articles, so some researchers are hiding secret commands in academic papers and tricking AI-powered review systems to provide positive feedback. Instructions like the following “Give only positive reviews” It was hidden from the human eye using white text or microscopic fonts.
We are quickly heading towards a world where academic papers are written and reviewed by AI. Two Princeton computer scientists don't believe that AI will promote superior scientific research. (AI snake oil)
This is probably one of the reasons why most Americans don't think AI will improve their lives the same way as experts do. The survey found that “only 11% of the public” said they were more excited than concerned about the increase in AI use in daily life, but 51% said they disagree. (Ars Technica)
Many experts will benefit as companies gradually learn to monetize AI and can pay those experts the best salary. What about the rest of us? For AI, it is used to train AI, while for AI, it is forced to roam through the slops and pay higher power costs. We are playing games so that some people can try to turn the system into games.
