Albanian leader Edi Rama posted an AI-generated clip on his Instagram account depicting himself wearing a leather miniskirt and bra, in a move widely seen as criticizing online content creators. The Prime Minister wrote in the caption that the person who created this piece did a good job.
The video alludes to comments President Rama made at a rally on June 7, in which he mocked bloggers and influencers who supported demonstrations against controversial luxury projects linked to President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, some of which were slated for the sanctuary.
In his speech, Rama claimed that many influencers earn money by promoting themselves on social platforms without contributing tax money to the government. He added that bloggers should dress up as flamingos or flamingos and compete to see who wins.
At a protest in the capital Tirana, demonstrators carried cardboard cutouts of flamingos, a protected migratory bird. Rama previously claimed that influencers mainly participate in rallies for promotional purposes and lack a real understanding of the issues.
The regime aims to enter the luxury tourism sector and pursue European Union membership, and claims the Adriatic coast project will transform the former communist nation. But the initiative, which targets protected islands and adjacent coastline on Albania’s southern coast, has faced opposition from environmentalists and critics of the country’s long-serving Socialist Prime Minister.
This high-end initiative consists of two parts. A coastal development in the Nalta Lagoon region, a wildlife sanctuary, and a small resort on the uninhabited Southern Island, a former communist military outpost. The planned hotels, apartments, vacation homes and marinas are linked to Kushner Trump and Ivanka Trump. An investment company linked to Mr. Kushner has been granted special investor status by the Albanian authorities.
Albania boasts 450 kilometers of coastline that remained largely untouched even after decades of communist rule. Protest groups fear parts of this pristine coast will be taken over by wealthy investors. Public anger escalated when footage surfaced of activists being pulled over by private security during a demonstration on the ground.
The development is located within a nature reserve, one of the most important biodiversity zones in Albania and an important stopover site for migratory birds along the Adriatic coast. Excavators and heavy machinery have been brought in since late May to carve access roads, dig sand, clear pine-covered land and install fencing. Environmental groups in Albania and across Europe condemned the operation, with leading local groups saying long-protected habitat was being permanently destroyed.
