AI-powered search makes millions of AP images and videos available on a single platform

AI Video & Visuals

Press Release | Associated Press

The Associated Press today announced the launch of a unique search experience powered by artificial intelligence in AP Newsroom, the global news agency’s single platform for multimedia content.

The platform now offers e-commerce capabilities in addition to serving AP’s member press and customers.

AI-powered search makes it easy for users to find the best photos and videos that meet their search criteria. Rather than a traditional metadata search, the tool understands descriptive language and generates search results based on user-provided descriptions.

AI-powered video search lets you find individual moments within entire video clips, regardless of length.

“This is a major shift in finding content within our ever-expanding archive,” said Paul Caluori, AP’s vice president of global products. “Suddenly, you can find very specific things in your images and videos, even those that are not tagged or captioned. Unlocking an unparalleled visual archive, new e-commerce capabilities will make the AP Newsroom a seamless experience for non-subscribing customers.”

An easy-to-use, self-service licensing and pricing model allows users to seamlessly license images and videos, including for ad-hoc use.

Replacing the AP Images and AP Archives platform, AP Newsroom also offers an organizational board to store visual content for later use.

AI-powered search capabilities are available now to non-subscription customers and will be available to existing customers later this month.

Adding new content every minute of every day from anywhere in the world, AP is the go-to source for over 60 million photos for professional image buyers and commercial customers.
