Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin Williams and director of the romantic comedy Lisa Frankenstein, recently joined her Instagram Story to tell people to stop sending out videos of the iconic comedian A-dad, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 63.
“Stop sending dad's AI videos,” writes Zelda. “Stop believing that I want to see it or I want to understand, I don't, I don't. If you're just trying to troll me, I see something worse, I limit and move on.
“To see the legacy of real people, we can drive them out of insanity so that others can drive away the terrifying Tiktok slops, to condense to the point of 'like this vaguely look and sound, that's enough',” she continued. “You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hot dogs from human life, from the history of art and music.
Zelda says, “And stop calling it the “future” for the love of everything, AI is simply recycled and reabsorbing the past.
These latest Instagram Story posts are not the first time Zelda has called for AI recreation for her late father. In 2023, when SAG-AFTRA listed AI recreation as a “essential subject of negotiation” on a strike, Zelda bashed Robin Williams' AI version as “personally intrusive.”
“I am not a fair voice in the SAG battle with AI,” Zelda wrote on Instagram at the time. “For years I've seen the number of people who want to train these models to create/recreate actors like Dad, who don't agree with. This is not theoretical, it's very realistic.”
“I've already heard AI get his 'voice' and say whatever people want. It's a personal intrusive thing, but the effects go far beyond my own feelings,” she continued. “Living actors deserve the opportunity to choose and create characters, voice cartoons, and lead human effort and time to pursue performance. These recreations are poor facsimiles of the best people, but at worst, the horrifying Frankenstein monsters are wrapped together from the worst chunks of the industry.”
