Yuji City Information Modeling was released on Saturday during WAIC’s International AI Cities Forum.
Several domestically developed AI platforms were unveiled at this year’s World Artificial Intelligence Conference, providing futuristic insights into city management and customer service.
“Uji City Information Modeling (CIM),” named after the legendary figure of King Wu, was unveiled by China Unicom on Saturday during the WAIC’s International AI City Forum.
This includes creating and managing digital representations of urban environments, including buildings, infrastructure, and other urban assets.
Similar to Building Information Modeling (BIM) used in construction, CIM systems can provide a comprehensive and integrated view of a city’s physical and digital infrastructure.
According to Liang Peng, director of China Unicom Smart City Research Institute, the system integrates new-generation information technologies such as 3D geographic information system, high-performance rendering, and cloud-native.
“We aim to build a digital city that mirrors the physical city and promote the modernization of the city’s governance system and capabilities,” Liang said at the forum.
This will be a valuable tool for policy makers, urban planners and researchers in improving the quality of life in cities and achieving smart and sustainable urban development goals, he added.

During the 2023 WAIC, officials introduced the domestic AI language system “Chitu”.
Additionally, Beijing-based technology company CLOOPEN has unveiled a cutting-edge language AI system called Chitu. This innovative system is designed to provide intelligent customer service and engaging conversations using AI technology.
The company’s researcher Liu Jie said the new version of intelligent communication will bring great progress in conversational ability, language analysis and understanding, conversational skills, and human-machine collaboration.
AI models can understand context, recognize emotions, identify specific information, extract relevant details and generate appropriate questions, he added.
Also during this year’s WAIC, Sensetime Technology cooperated with the Shanghai AI Institute and other prestigious Chinese universities to introduce an upgraded version of the INTERN AI model.
A ChatGPT-style model, InternLM, stands out as the first domestically released language model capable of handling contexts on the scale of 1 trillion parameters. The Intern Landmark system is one of the world’s first city-scale, real-world 3D models.
According to Wu Zhiqiang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, these advances in AI technology will provide valuable tools for urban governance, services and research, contributing to smarter and more sustainable urban development.
