DigiKey has announced the release of Season 4 of the City Digital video series “AI in a Smart World,” sponsored by Molex and STMicroelectronics.
The new season of the three-episode series will explore different aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) integration, from infrastructure and transportation to environmental monitoring and public services.
Season 4 will also focus on AI and the transformative role it plays in shaping modern cities. Today's hardware and software innovations will drive the integration of AI into the urban fabric of tomorrow, aiming to improve efficiency, sustainability and quality of life.
“AI use cases in smart cities are still in their infancy, but will play a key role in building smarter, more sustainable and livable cities,” said Josh Mickolio, technology business development manager at DigiKey.

The first of three videos in the series, “Intelligent Backbone,” explores the critical role of AI in modernizing urban infrastructure. From smart buildings with AI-driven energy systems to implementing intelligent traffic control and using AI in monitoring critical infrastructure, this episode reveals how AI is becoming the backbone of efficient, sustainable urban living.
The second video, “On the Move,” explores how AI is revolutionizing the way people and things move through our environments. Advances in autonomous vehicles, smart traffic management systems, and AI-powered public transportation show how these technologies can make transportation safer, faster, and greener.
Our third and final video, “Responsive Cities,” explores the role of AI in enhancing public services and environmental monitoring. We discuss AI's potential impact on waste management, predictive maintenance of utilities, and the ability to monitor and respond to environmental changes. This episode also explores how AI can help create more responsive and adaptable urban environments.
