Sanat Kaur, former co-secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, suggests that DGCA, although official regulatory and operated independently, has repeatedly flagged Air India's safety and inspection issues. The recent crash raises serious concerns about the airline's maintenance practices, particularly the effectiveness of routine “line maintenance” checks before flights.
Sanat Kaul, former co-secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, “In this matter, the Director of the DGCA-Civil Aviation is a regulatory authority. It works under the ministry, but works independently. Maintenance,” checks made by inspectors before all flights.
“We have a complete regulatory framework. That's fine. Our regulations are well laid out, international civil aviation organization (ICAO), UN agencies. All countries, including all these countries, adhere to these rules, and the question of how well they were implemented in such a vast system is clear.
