Data and AI company Databricks has launched Databricks AI/BI, a new type of business intelligence (BI) product that aims to make analytics and insights available to everyone in an organization.
Databricks AI/BI includes Dashboards, an AI-powered, low-code interface for creating and distributing fast, interactive dashboards, and Genie, a conversational interface for addressing ad-hoc and follow-up questions through natural language.
Both are powered by a composite AI system that continuously learns usage across an organization's entire data stack, including ETL pipelines, lineage and other queries. This allows AI/BI to accurately and automatically answer complex questions without the up-front setup and modeling associated with traditional tools, according to the company.
“A truly intelligent BI solution must understand the semantics and nuances specific to a business to effectively answer business users' questions,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks. “We believe this requires a different approach to BI software design than has been seen to date – one that puts AI systems at the center of the architecture, designed to leverage their strengths and compensate for their weaknesses to address the challenge of understanding and learning from these nuances. The release of AI/BI is a step towards building such a system.”
Databricks is a data and AI company with over 10,000 organizations worldwide, including Block, Comcast, Condé Nast, Rivian and Shell. The company says AI/BI intelligence is enabled by the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, which is natively integrated and provides unified governance, lineage, secure sharing and lightning-fast performance for any data size.
AI/BI uses composite AI systems that leverage an ensemble of AI agents to reason about business questions and generate useful answers. Each agent is responsible for a narrow but important task, such as planning, SQL generation, explaining, visualizing, and certifying results. The system is designed to continuously learn and improve its performance based on human feedback.
