The Qlik Connect gathering in Orlando brought together a wide range of customers and executives to share their perspectives on how robotics, AI and data visualization solutions from QlikTech International AB and its partners are making a difference.
One such perspective came from global shipping company United Parcel Service Inc. UPS has its own Supply Chain Solutions division that provides freight forwarding and warehousing services to several clients, and the company showed off its robotics solutions as part of the Qlik Connect showcase.
Research analysts from TheCUBE discuss the key highlights of Qlik Connect.
“Over the last four to five years, we've transformed our business and made a big commitment to robotics, AI and automation,” said Scott Hertel (pictured), director of product solutions and strategy (global fulfillment) for UPS Supply Chain Solutions.[The robot] You can create routes of movement within the warehouse, keeping employees in their zone and reducing travel. It's a question of where the digital and physical meet and how to combine that with an efficient operational environment. [with] It provides actionable data and analytics that can be used to make better decisions.”
Hertel spoke with theCUBE's Savannah Peterson at Qlik Connect during an exclusive broadcast from SiliconANGLE Media's livestreaming studio, theCUBE. Peterson also spoke with Hertel in separate interviews with Casey George, executive vice president of global sales at Qlik, Emma McAllister, business intelligence and data analyst at Henderson Group, and Miranda Foster, vice president of worldwide communications at Qlik. Using Qlik for Supply Chain Management and AI
UPS also uses Qlik's intelligent analytics platform as part of its supply chain management solution.
“With intelligent analytics, we use Qlik to provide data on our customers' shipping profiles, shipping weights, packages, trends and zones,” says Hertel. “We then leverage this internally to do a lot of our own internal analysis and reporting analytics on our customers and our company performance.”

News from the conference this week featured the release of Qlik Answers, a service that extracts valuable information from unstructured enterprise content. George said this latest announcement from Qlik will help businesses with AI integration.
“AI is at the forefront of everything now,” George told theCUBE. “Our ability to take that technology, embed it, and use Qlik Answers to solve real business problems is very powerful. There's no question of applying AI answers to your business to solve real business problems.”

Applying Analytics to Data Visualization Solutions
Henderson Group, a consortium of four companies in the retail grocery industry, deployed Qlik data visualization solutions to manage its use of analytics within the company, including Qlik Sense, a data visualization tool that makes data analysis easier.
“We recently launched a self-service initiative with Qlik Sense,” says McAlister. “We're teaching several users across the company how to build their own analytical dashboards. Different departments and end users are creating some very creative and interesting dashboards because they know exactly what they need the data for.”
Qlik Sense helped Henderson Group in several key areas, including analyzing location-based product performance.
“In one of our warehouses, we look at where different products are located on the shelf,” McAllister explains, “and we have dashboards that analyze the performance of different categories. We're looking at new product lines and how their placement in different stores and different store types is affecting sales.”

Focus on responsible AI development
One of Qlik's initiatives highlighted at the Connect event was the company's AI Council, a group of AI experts tasked with accelerating the responsible development of the Qlik AI-driven product portfolio.
“We think that's a really big differentiator for us in the market and in the AI space as a whole,” Foster says. “These are people who are looking at AI from a variety of perspectives: governance, law, how you should think about AI and what you need to do. They're really smart people to have in the Qlik ecosystem.”
From responsible use of AI to robotics, data visualization and solving business problems, one of the key messages from Qlik Connect is that their solutions resonate with customers and foster high levels of loyalty.
“We have a 93% customer retention rate,” Foster points out. “Our customers are continually building on the solutions they're using, and that's something we're really proud of as a company.”
