And now this. In an Instagram video, a woman watches a newspaper clipping showing three candidates for President Zurich City. Përparim Avdili (FDP), Raphael Golta (SP), Ueli Bamert (SVP).
“Which guy should I vote for now?” asks the woman in the video, but Secsseläutenplatz can be seen in the background. “If you're a man, Kaliman” describes a GLP politician who has been a member of the parliament of Switzerland's largest city since 2022.
FDP is troubled by fake portraits
What appears to be a humorous reference to gender imbalances in the field of Mayor's Office candidates is made headlines with AI content.
In reality, SVP, FDP, and SP candidates appear almost identical only in excerpts from non-existent newspapers. The description below the portrait is dummy text.
FDP's campaign manager calls Kahriman's election video a “complete failure” for NZZ and criticizes GLP for not sticking to its own demands – not using AI in political campaigns. But surprisingly, FDP representatives feel that visualizing political demands with AI is OK.
FDP itself produced AI code using images created by artificial intelligence. It shows climate activists stuck to streets in the Zurich neighborhood.
FDP has since issued the statement itself, and has committed, among other things, to always labeling AI content, just like Kleber Motif. In Kahriman's case, FDP representatives are only troubled by AI-generated portraits of candidates.
Green sees a code violation, Kaliman isn't
Greens campaign manager Eticus Rozas admits that the clip is clearly not intended to be taken completely seriously. Nevertheless, he states in “NZZ” that the Greens will not release such a video. The party is stuck with that code.
Serap Kahriman himself believes it is not inconsistent with the AI Charter. The video is a harmless gimmick and should be filmed with a wink. It remains unclear why she did not use actual election advertising materials to explain the fact that apart from her, it is a man who is primarily running for mayor. The effort was probably greater, and she may have had to ask the three candidates for consent.
Taking shortcuts via AI seems harmless. No facts are presented that do not correspond to the facts. It is not so clear where the misleading lines begin. GLP declares that it doesn't want to go anywhere near you with its commitment to AI code.
