After the final broadcast of “The Late Show,” US President Donald Trump shared a rare AI-generated video about X and Truth Social targeting outgoing host Stephen Colbert.

The AI-controlled video shows President Trump picking Colbert up and throwing him into a trash can on the set of his show. The video then cuts to Trump dancing to the Village People’s hit song “YMCA” in front of an applauding crowd.

The video, uploaded without a caption, is the latest twist in the long-running feud between President Trump and the late-night TV host.

The post came just one day after CBS aired the final episode of The Late Show Starring Stephen Colbert, ending Colbert’s 11-year tenure. He took on the role in 2015 after David Letterman left the show.

Reactions online were widely divided. Supporters praised the video, while others accused it of targeting mainstream media voices, as Trump returned to his trademark style of mocking his critics.

One user wrote: “Instead of fixing this broken country, you’re posting more Boomer AI crap. Really useless.” “Trust me, Stephen Colbert will have the last laugh,” one person commented.

“This kind of position is far below the dignity of the office of the president. A president should not be this despicable. A true leader should be an example to the people. What kind of example is this? What kind of example is this? Acting like a high school freshman who gets mad at someone and makes fun of them online? For heaven’s sake, have some dignity. Not everything needs to be addressed. There are real issues to spend time on.”

About an hour after the final episode aired on May 21, President Trump also attacked Colbert on “Truth Social.” In a shared post, he wrote, “Colbert is finally done with CBS. It’s amazing he lasted this long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead man. If you could run any man off the streets, they’d be better than this complete bastard. I’m so glad he finally left!”

Why did Stephen Colbert’s show end?

CBS earlier announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end in May 2026, citing the financial challenges facing traditional late-night TV operations.

Despite Colbert consistently being the top viewer in the slot, the network said the format is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain due to shrinking advertising revenue, changing viewer habits and the growing dominance of streaming platforms.

But the decision sparked a political debate, following Colbert’s public criticism of CBS parent Paramount over its legal settlement with Trump, at a time when Paramount was also seeking regulatory approval for a major merger.

CBS denied that politics played any role in the cancellation, insisting that the action was based entirely on financial considerations.
