Claude AI will soon take control of your phone, making calls and sending messages on your behalf

AI News

Anthropic recently released a new update to its AI assistant, Claude AI, that lets you complete tasks using your computer and an app. However, AI companies’ quest for automation and remote task management doesn’t end here. The AI company is currently working on new features for Claude that will allow the AI assistant to make calls and perform tasks on mobile devices.

The feature, called Orbit, is currently being tested and was discovered by user X (formerly Twitter) with the username M1Astra. According to a screenshot of the code shared by M1Astra, the Orbit feature could allow Claude to perform several tasks on his smartphone. These include creating or deleting calendar events, composing messages, making phone calls, presenting files, making plans, taking over the browser, and more.

Claude can already make calls autonomously, but currently requires additional tools. Once Orbit functionality is included, Claude will be able to perform these tasks independently on his phone.

The ability to use a phone could “close the loop” as Anthropic has the ability to control computers and perform tasks. Mobile triggers complete the automation cycle and allow the AI assistant to work on both computers and smartphones.

Claude can already control your computer

Meanwhile, a newly rolled out update in Claude allows the AI assistant to use your mouse, keyboard, and screen to access apps on your behalf. According to Anthropic, this feature allows Claude to complete tasks for you while you’re away.

This update allows Claude to open applications, operate a browser, fill out spreadsheets, and manage other activities that normally occur on a computer.

This effectively turns Claude into a personal AI agent that can complete tasks on your behalf, similar to tools like OpenClaw. According to Anthropic, users can remotely command Claude to leave the area. By the time they return, the AI may have already finished its assigned work.

This feature is currently limited to research preview for paid Claude Cowork and Claude Code users. At this time, this feature is only available on macOS. Additionally, both the Claude desktop and mobile apps must be updated and paired for full functionality.
