Perplexity CEO says AI could spark a mini-entrepreneurial boom

AI For Business

AI job losses may not be such a bad thing, says Perplexity’s CEO.

Aravind Srinivas, appearing on the “All In” podcast filmed at Nvidia’s GTC last week and published on Monday, said AI could lead to job cuts, but it could also create many business opportunities.

“The reality is that most people don’t enjoy their jobs,” he says. Instead of honing your corporate job, learn how to use AI tools and “start your own mini-business,” he said.

The CEO added on Monday’s podcast that AI-powered small businesses could allow entrepreneurs to pay for their needs, enjoy a higher quality of life, and feel a sense of ownership and passion.

“Such a bright future is what we should expect, even if we have to deal with temporary turnover,” he said.

Srinivas Co-founded Perplexity He was appointed in 2022 after working as a researcher at Google’s DeepMind and OpenAI. In August, Business Insider reported that AI search engines Seeking new funds Post-money valuation is $20 billion. Investors in the startup include SoftBank, Nvidia, and Jeff Bezos.

Srinivas has previously touted AI as a tool to stimulate entrepreneurship.

“Spend less time doomscrolling on Instagram and more time using AI,” he said in a July interview with Matthew Berman.

Srinivas said new jobs will need to come from entrepreneurs as AI reduces headcount across all industries.

“Other people who lose their jobs will either end up starting their own companies and leverage AI, or end up learning AI and contributing to new companies,” he added.

The availability of generative AI and vibe coding tools has led to a surge in people experimenting with side hustle and small business ideas.

Earlier this year, Business Insider reported how side hustlers were using AI tools to make thousands of dollars by selling startup pitch materials, writing children’s books, providing translation services, writing resumes for others, and more.
