Kamba Kshitiz Garg has been named audio and video lead at Canva Research, marking a senior hire as the design platform continues to expand its generative power. A.I. Features spanning video and multimedia.
Garg shared the move on LinkedIn, confirming that he joined Canva Research after nearly eight years at Adobe, where he worked on generative AI systems across audio and video. His new role will be within Canva's research organization, supporting AI-powered product development for the company's global user base.
Canva operates the world's largest cloud-based design platform used across the education, business, and creative industries. Its research group focuses on translating applied AI research into production systems used by millions of users, including educators and students who create visual and video content.
Moving from Adobe to large-scale generative video research
In a post on LinkedIn, Garg said he has joined Canva Research as head of audio and video, describing it as an important career shift following a long stint at Adobe. He acknowledged his previous collaborators and pointed to the increased focus on video and audio research in Canva's AI roadmap.
Canva Research will lead research efforts across video and audio systems under the direction of Stefano Corazza, Garg said. He also said the role will include building research capabilities that bridge experimental models and production-ready systems.
“After nearly eight amazing years at Adobe, I am excited to share with you that I have joined Canva Research as Head of Audio/Video,” Garg wrote.
Research role suggests scaling up of AI video capabilities
Garg also confirmed that his team is hiring research scientists and engineers from mid-level to staff level, with roles based on a hybrid basis in San Francisco and Australia. These positions sit at the intersection of applied research and engineering and focus on generative video systems that can operate reliably at scale.
The team's work includes developing and evaluating diffusion-based video models, improving temporal consistency and control, and translating research findings into production pipelines. This role also focuses on system reliability, benchmarking, safety considerations, and integration with Canva's broader product ecosystem.
This demonstrates Canva's continued investment in moving generated video beyond experimentation and into a tool that can be deployed across education, content creation, and professional workflows without compromising performance or governance.
Looking ahead, Garg says he's already working with teams across the region and embarking on the next phase of research-driven development, writing: “I've already enjoyed meeting the team face-to-face in Sydney and am looking forward to further adventures.”
