In order to introduce new age courses to the ITI, the state government decided to replace certain obsolete courses with new age courses.
Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Maharashtra will soon offer courses on drone technology, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, digital manufacturing and more.
The Directorate General of Vocational Education (DVET) through ITI has already produced electricians, mechanics, mechanics, wire workers, welders and repair technicians.
“These courses will continue to be an essential service, but the changing nature of the industry and the impact of technology are demanding a different skilled workforce than ever before. We will focus on it,” said DVET Director Diganvar Dalvi.

Dalvi further said: The industry will need operators and other personnel skilled in new age technologies such as AI, robotics and drones…these will provide great employment opportunities for students…”
The Maharashtra State Skills Development Authority also issued a government resolution approving the new course.
Maharashtra has a total of 411 ITIs. These are popular with students, especially those coming from rural or disadvantaged settings in the state. These courses can act as a guaranteed ticket to a post-class 10 job or offer self-employment opportunities. In order to introduce new age courses to the ITI, the state government decided to replace certain obsolete courses with new age courses.
ITI’s centralized online admission process across Maharashtra started on June 12th. The registration process will continue until July 11th. However, Dalvi said that not all new courses will be offered this year.
“We will start with courses that can be launched with existing infrastructure, such as drone technology … whereas more complex courses such as AI and robotics that require special arrangements will take a little longer to launch,” he said.
