I’ve been looking for a low profile MagSafe battery for years. I’ve tested dozens of these battery packs, and while some are great, they all share the same compromise: bulk. This year’s iPhone Air has made me want a thinner MagSafe battery solution even more. So when I saw that BMX released SolidSafe Air with a capacity of 5,000 mAh and a thickness of less than 6.8 mm, I knew I had to give it a try. After a week or so of using it, here’s what you need to know.

On paper, there’s a lot to like about this MagSafe power bank. It has fast Qi2 15W charging speeds, the ability to charge multiple devices, and uses a solid-state battery to fit 5000mAh into such a small and thin chassis. Here’s what a battery can do:

It also charges at 15W via USB-C, allowing you to charge it from 0% to 100% in less than 2 hours. I also like the fit and finish. The front has a brushed titanium look and the inner part has a soft rubberized feel.
my experience
The biggest attraction for me was the thinness of the mobile battery. I have never seen a mobile battery so thin. I use it with my iPhone 17 Pro and it fits perfectly. As someone with an iPhone 17 Pro and not a Pro Max user, I’ve noticed that some powerbanks may actually have a lip that covers the 17 Pro since the battery is intended for use with the Pro Max. I felt that to make this SolidSafe battery thinner, it might need to be longer and wider, like Apple did with the MagSafe power bank for the iPhone Air. It’s slightly wider than other power banks, but still fits my iPhone 17 Pro perfectly. If you look at my images you can see that the battery lines up perfectly on all sides of the 17 Pro.
It is very thin and light, so the power bank does not add much weight or thickness to your phone. By the way, the iPhone 17 Pro is 8.75mm and weighs 206g, while the SolidSafe Air is 6.8mm and 90g lighter. Another comparison I like to make is with Apple’s MagSafe battery in the iPhone Air (7.7 mm, 127 g). So you can see how small and light SolidSafe batteries are. I personally carry it in my fanny pack, and it weighs very little to carry around every day.
charging
Regarding charging, I mainly used it with the iPhone 17 Pro. I wanted to test how much juice I could actually get. If you toss this battery when your iPhone 17 Pro has 20% to 30% battery remaining, it will charge to 90% to 95% while you use the phone intermittently. It has almost no bulk, and the brushed titanium finish makes it easy to hold and adds passive grip. I also charged my AirPods Pro wirelessly a few times and they worked as expected. The battery does get a little warm, but not enough to worry about. The battery itself also charges very quickly. So if you’re in a hurry, it’s nice to know you can charge it quickly.
The only thing I would have liked was an LCD to show battery percentage and charging diagnostics. However, there is no doubt that the battery will be bulkier or the battery capacity will be reduced to save space. So I understand the compromises. But overall, this battery is great. They offer the regular SolidSafe 5k and 10k offering that display.
Price, availability and final thoughts
BMX SolidSafe Air is available now on the BMX website. It comes in three colors: silver, gold, and black (I have the silver one), and costs $59.
If you’re looking to buy a new MagSafe power bank and value thinness and portability, this is your best option. I have yet to see a battery bank that is this thin and fits Apple’s aesthetic so well. BMX sells this as an iPhone Air companion, but this battery is also great for people who have an iPhone with MagSafe and want to reduce bulk.
