The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau i Jibrin, through his foundation, the Barau i Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), has opened calls for foreign scholarships for postgraduate students in the fields of artificial intelligence, forensic science and robotics science.

Dr. Mikedy Lawan, Executive Director of the BIJF Scholarship Committee, which was established to provide humanitarian, education and empowerment services across the country, said the three fields were selected to provide professional skills to the nation.

Special Adviser to Senator Barau on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashiru, in a statement on Sunday, said the scholarship scheme was designed to promote academic excellence and support talented individuals in Kano North Senatorial District.

He said applicants will have to choose from three programmes — M.Tech. (Information Security and Cyber Forensics), M.Tech. (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) and M.Tech. (Robotics Science).

The foundation has limited its scholarship programme to three areas as part of its efforts to contribute to the technological advancement of the country.

“We are raising the bar and offering postgraduate scholarships in these three specialisations to equip our youth with the requisite skills. Upon graduation, the recipients will become specialists and experts in these fields and contribute to the country's technological advancement,” he said.

He added that the program will be about 18 months long, with an expected graduation year of 2026, and the deadline for submitting applications is July 30, 2024.
