Khosla Ventures and social capital veteran Sandhya Venkatachalam launch new seed-stage firm to invest in category-defining AI companies targeting the ‘capacity crunch’
Axiom Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm, announced that it has over-closed its inaugural $52 million fund dedicated to supporting “AI for the real world” – practical application of AI that unlocks real value on a global scale.
Founded by former Khosla Ventures and social capital partner Sandhya Venkatachalam, Axiom Partners has secured commitments from eight major institutional investors, as well as leading AI executives at OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Nvidia, and AMD.
The company invests in startups that use AI to democratize access to skills and resources that have long been out of reach for most people in the world. The reason is not because solutions don’t exist, but because there aren’t enough skilled people to deliver them at scale. This goes far beyond automating existing software and addresses a global “capacity shortage” that spans both the digital and physical worlds.
“We built Axiom on a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves access to the best expertise and resources, whether in healthcare, education, financial advice, or technology. Every child should learn from the best teachers. Every patient should be treated by the most knowledgeable doctors. Everyone should have access to financial advice that was once reserved for the wealthy. AI makes this possible.” Venkatachalam said. “Axiom is empowering founders to leverage AI to improve the quality of life for 8 billion people around the world, not just the elite 80 million people. We call this AI for the real world.”

“Sandhya was into AI long before it became popular,” said Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures. “She discovers exceptional founders who are building potentially disruptive businesses under the radar before it’s obvious. I look forward to continuing to partner with her.”
Venkatachalam brings deep expertise in AI, hardware and software from his previous management and investment career. Notably, she is one of Groq’s early lead investors. Groq created a market for AI inference chips and recently signed a $20 billion licensing and talent acquisition deal with Nvidia. She has also held product leadership roles at Andiamo Systems and Skype, companies acquired by Cisco and Microsoft for a combined $10 billion.
“Sandhya has played a pivotal role in taking our company from a great idea to a category leader,” said Krish Raminini, CEO of AI Unicorn Fireflies.ai. “Her continued support, insight, and guidance helped us stay focused, achieve bigger goals, and ultimately reach breakout velocity in the ever-changing and rapidly moving AI space.”
Axiom was launched with a team of partners with leadership experience at leading AI innovators, including Evan Morikowa, former Head of Engineering at OpenAI, and Kipp Bodner, CMO at Hubspot. Together, we help founders navigate the technical complexities of AI, build highly user-focused products, and scale early to market.
