Apple may not be so democratic with its Galaxy AI competitors

AI News

Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil a Galaxy AI competitor, called Apple Intelligence, at its WDDC 2024 event next week. BloombergApple Intelligence is an AI system that works across the different devices of the Apple ecosystem, but the Cupertino company does not seem to be as democratic as Samsung in terms of making AI features available to smartphone users.

iPhones released before 2023 may not be supported by Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is reportedly going to require an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16. Bloomberg This suggests that Apple won't bring AI features to older iPhones, while Samsung has made nearly all of its Galaxy AI experiences available on its flagship smartphones in 2022 and 2023, following its debut on the Galaxy S24 series this year.

Apple's focus on productivity could also mean skipping fun features like auto-generated wallpapers found on Samsung's phones and tablets. Like Galaxy AI, Apple Intelligence will offer features like summaries and reply suggestions.

Other similarities with the Galaxy AI include features like transcription of voice recordings. Apple could also launch a chatbot like ChatGPT and improve Siri to give users more control over apps. All of this will follow a beta release next week, before being officially introduced on iPhones and iPads with iOS 18 in the second half of 2024.

While Apple prepares to enter the AI race, Samsung is working on making Galaxy AI even more accessible. The company plans to bring Galaxy AI to its smartwatches (both existing ones and the one due out next month) with the latest version of its One UI Watch. On smartphones, it will bring some of its features, such as Live Translate, to third-party apps.
