Tech Giant Apple Inc. is reportedly considering using artificial intelligence to speed up the design of custom chips that will enhance the device.
In a speech at the ITF World Conference last month in Belgium, Johny Sruji, Apple's senior vice president of hardware technology, said one of the key lessons the company has learned is the need to use the most cutting-edge tools available to design chips, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a video of the talk.
“EDA (electronic design automation) companies are extremely important in supporting the complexity of chip design,” says Srouji. “Generating AI technology is likely to allow more design work in less time and can lead to greater productivity.”
Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys, two of the industry's largest electronic design automation companies, are also looking to add AI to their products, the report says.
In his speech, Srouji outlines Apple's early iPhone processors to custom chip development, from Mac desktop computers and the latest chips to enhance their Vision Pro Augmented Reality Headset.
Apple is already using AI
Srouji's comments suggest that Apple is the first to use AI, and that it hopes that the engineering team will be quick to design the chips. However, Appleinsider reported that Apple has been using AI in its designs with some capacity for years.

Third-party companies are using AI
AppleInsider reports that Apple has relied on third-party EDA companies for many years and is already using AI and machine learning in chip design.
Synopsys says that using generator AI will help you create new ways to design the chips that Apple relies on.
Microsoft Jobs
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that software giant Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs, particularly in sales, to streamline its workforce amid increasing focus on AI and investment.
The company is aiming to accelerate its investment in AI and keep up with its fast-paced industry competitors, and is now seeing AI integration into products and services.
This week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the deployment of generator and agent AI will reduce the total workforce of corporate workers over the next few years.
