The artificial intelligence giant recently met with news executives to discuss copyright issues related to using news stories to train AI, the Financial Times reported overnight. Alphabet Inc.’s Google (GOOGL) (GOOGL), Microsoft (MSFT), Open AI and Adobe (ADBE) were among the companies executives have spoken to on the subject, according to the report. The two companies could strike a deal for publishers to get subscription fees for content that helps train AI systems, but talks are still in the early stages. The rise of AI chatbots could transform the way consumers get information, potentially to the detriment of news publishers. Because chatbots often convey information themselves, unlike traditional search engines that direct users to external sites for answers. Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Adobe did not respond to MarketWatch’s requests for comment on whether they have met with publishers.
