June 13 (Reuters) – Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O) said on Tuesday that Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms is on the verge of an update on another specially-designed new chip as investors crave it. and other companies have announced they are placing large orders for new central processors. For artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT. CEO Lisa Su said AMD has started shipping its “Bergamo” central processor. Alexis Black Bjorlin, who oversees computing infrastructure at Meta (META.O), said the company has adopted it. They spoke at an event in San Francisco where AMD was due to unveil new AI chips.
The update follows AMD’s plans to reveal new details about an AI “superchip” that analysts believe will be a strong challenger to Nvidia’s (NVDA.O) dominance in the burgeoning artificial intelligence market. It was done while standing.
Analysts are hoping for the latest details on AMD’s cutting-edge graphics processing unit (GPU), a chip called the MI300. This chip is a category used by companies such as OpenAI to develop products such as ChatGPT.
NVIDIA has 80% to 95% market share in the AI computing market, according to analysts. The company’s market cap briefly hit $1 trillion last month after Nvidia said it expected a surge in revenue as it secured a supply of new chips to meet a surge in demand.
Nvidia has few competitors working on a large scale. Intel (INTC.O) and several startups such as Cerebras Systems and Sambanova Systems have competing products, but NVIDIA’s biggest revenue threat so far is Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O). It’s a work inside the chips of Google and Amazon.com (AMZN.O). ) cloud unit, both custom renting his chip to an external developer.
AMD’s new chips aren’t changing that anytime soon. Su told investors at an earnings call last month that the MI300 will start to generate sales in the fourth quarter, but “it will be more meaningful in 2024.”
And Nvidia’s dominance extends beyond its own chips, as it’s been providing software tools to AI researchers for more than a decade, learning how to predict what they’ll need for chips that take years to design. It was brought about by
TIRIAS Research principal analyst Kevin Krewell said AMD needs to keep up with trends in both software and research.
“They need to connect with the research community to understand what the market is doing and needs to do long before anything matters,” said Crewell. says Mr.
