Ambarella, Inc. unveils CV7 Edge AI Vision SoC for advanced imaging and AI applications at CES 2026

Applications of AI

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 5, 2026 (Globe Newswire) — Ambarella, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMBA), an edge AI semiconductor company, today announced during CES its CV7 edge AI vision system-on-chip (SoC), which is optimized for a wide range of AI recognition applications. Examples include advanced AI-based 8K consumer products (such as action cameras and 360-degree cameras), multi-imager enterprise security cameras, robotics (such as drones), industrial automation, and high-performance video conferencing devices. CV7 is also ideal for multi-stream automotive designs, especially those running CNN or transformer-based networks at the edge, such as AI vision gateways and hubs in fleet video telematics, 360-degree surround view and video recording applications, and passive driver assistance systems (ADAS). All of these applications can leverage CV7 to take advantage of simultaneous processing of multiple video streams up to 8Kp60 and superior image quality, combined with high-performance edge AI and low power consumption.

Fermi Wang, President and CEO of Ambarella, said: “Joining our broad portfolio of edge AI SoCs, with more than 39 million units shipped to date, we now enable consumer and enterprise security camera developers to deliver cutting-edge imaging capabilities and the best edge AI performance for improved video analytics and improved image quality.” Reduce thermal management requirements for smaller form factors and longer battery life across applications.”

Compared to its predecessor, CV7 consumes 20% less power. This is also thanks to Samsung's 4nm process technology, which Ambarella is the first to adopt at this node. The CV7 is also designed using Ambarella's algorithm-first design philosophy, allowing it to efficiently execute all processing tasks simultaneously with extremely high performance and low power consumption, maintaining the company's leadership position in the industry's highest AI performance per watt.

In contrast to competing multi-chip solutions, the CV7 is a highly integrated SoC with multiple functional blocks, delivering superior performance, a small form factor, faster time to market, and a reduced bill of materials. CV7 incorporates Ambarella's proprietary AI accelerator, image signal processor (ISP), and video encoding with Arm.

cores, I/O, and more to provide customers with the most powerful and efficient AI vision SoC in its class.

Its high AI performance is powered by Ambarella's proprietary 3rd generation CVflow.

AI accelerator. It has over 2.5x more AI performance compared to the previous generation CV5 SoC. This allows CV7 to support a combination of CNNs and transformer networks and run them in parallel.

CV7 also continues Ambarella's track record of combining traditional ISP technology with AI enhancements to deliver industry-leading image signal processing such as high dynamic range (HDR), fisheye camera distortion correction, and 3D motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF), all with higher performance and superior image quality than its predecessor. As a result, CV7 delivers impressive image quality in low light down to 0.01 lux, with improved HDR for videos and images, delivering more vivid detail in scenes with sharp contrasts between bright and dark areas.

CV7 advances also include hardware-accelerated video encoding (H.264, H.265, MJPEG), which improves encoding performance by 2x over CV5. This improvement allows for maximum video encoding of a single 4Kp240 stream or dual 8Kp30. Additionally, for next-generation multi-imager enterprise security cameras, CV7 can easily support 4x 4Kp30 with multiple streams simultaneously, as well as the latest trans-based AI networks and Vision Language Models (VLM).

The CV7's on-chip general-purpose processing has also been upgraded to a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73, delivering twice the CPU performance compared to previous SoCs. Additionally, the 64-bit DRAM interface significantly increases available DRAM bandwidth compared to CV5.

CV7 SoC samples are available now and will be demonstrated at Ambarella's invitation-only trade show this week during CES in Las Vegas. For more information or to schedule a demo during the show, contact your Ambarella representative or visit www.ambarella.com/products/aiot-industrial-robotics.
