- Amazon managers asked employees for ideas on how to use ChatGPT and other AI chatbots at work.
- Some of these ideas were shared in an internal document titled Generative AI-ChatGPT Impact and Opportunity Analysis.
- This is just one of many behind-the-scenes efforts involving AI chatbots at Amazon.
Amazon employees are scrambling to capitalize on the sudden rise of ChatGPT and similar AI technologies.
One example of that frenzy: A leaked internal document listing 67 use cases for ChatGPT and similar apps across Amazon’s broad team.
The document, obtained by Insider, is titled “Generative AI-ChatGPT Impact and Opportunity Analysis.” The document was created after managers began asking employees to come up with ideas on how the company’s products and workflows could be improved using AI chatbot technology, according to insiders.
As Insider previously reported, this document is a testament to all the behind-the-scenes work Amazon is doing to deal with the sudden rise of ChatGPT and other AI chatbot apps.
According to the documents, Amazon employees want to use AI chatbots to automatically generate software code and marketing materials. Salespeople can use it to quickly scan financial reports of Amazon and its competitors to find strategic goals, he said.
Some of the ideas mentioned in this document are already in the prototyping stage. These include security automation tools and engineering apps that can quickly answer questions related to Amazon Web Services cloud offerings.
It also proposed a ChatGPT-type search bar for Amazon shoppers that “explains the strengths and weaknesses between brands and quotes and summarizes user reviews.” Amazon has since posted job listings suggesting a major overhaul of its search bar, Bloomberg previously reported.
An Amazon representative told Insider that the company has been using machine learning and artificial intelligence in “virtually everything it does” for more than 25 years.
“Amazon leads the AI industry in every meaningful way, and our AWS machine learning business has the largest number of customers, partners and capabilities in the cloud,” the representative added in the email. . “Although it is still early days, we are investing in generative AI across all of our businesses and have many unique capabilities that we already offer or are working hard to bring to our customers in the near future.”
Amazon employees are even planning to use ChatGPT for a key part of Amazon’s decision-making process, called PRFAQs. When pitching new ideas, Amazon asks employees to write hypothetical press releases and FAQ announcements describing the service, with some staff suggesting his ChatGPT could speed up the process. Did.
It’s unclear if Amazon will allow it. Amazon lawyers have previously warned employees to use ChatGPT wisely in the workplace. The use of AI chatbots is allowed, but staff members are prohibited from sharing sensitive information, such as internal emails and source code, with her ChatGPT. The same rule applies to the new Microsoft Bing search engine, which uses ChatGPT technology, according to internal documents. Some managers said they even get real-time alerts when employees use chatbots on their work computers.
