AI will help people avoid working five days a week: Here's how it works

Zoom plans to create AI avatars that will replace employees in meetings, helping them focus on more productive tasks, and in a recent interview, CEO Eric Yuan spoke about the company's upcoming AI tech that could make the four-day workweek a reality.

AI avatars for meetings: do they work?

So what does it mean that Zoom can use AI to reduce your workload to four days a week? Yuan noted that people often have to attend four to six meetings a day, but this isn't always necessary. He believes that by handing this task over to an AI avatar, people will be able to manage their overall work schedule to four days a week. Zoom will leverage existing phone, chat, and messaging tools with AI to provide a better balance, making it easier for people to make lifestyle choices, he says.

While Yuan did not provide a specific timeline for when AI avatars will come to fruition, he noted that the digital twin scenario is closer than ever before. However, he stressed that every major technology platform needs its own large-scale language model (LLM) or AI model to benefit from shifting basic and complex tasks to AI. He also gave the example of an AI avatar being able to be tailored to parameters relevant to a meeting. “In that meeting, we'll say, 'Tune your parameters to improve your negotiation skills, and send that version to join,'” Yuan said.

Recently, many countries, including India, are considering a four-day work week, but a shorter work week places a greater burden on employees to work extra hours to make up for the longer week off.
