According to the creator, analysis revealed visual errors in the video, which was created using OpenAI’s Sora tool.
A caption in Hindi for a video shared on Facebook on February 17, 2026, reads: “Part of the flyover collapsed due to moving traffic. Heavy concrete debris fell on vehicles passing below. Several cars and cars were trapped under the debris.”
A 10-second video depicting a section of the bridge clearly leaking water before it collapsed has been viewed more than 90,000 times.
The text overlay reads, “The viaduct collapsed like death. Lives trapped under concrete.”

According to Ashwin Ashok Mudgal, a transport official at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, on February 14, a section of a parapet wall at a subway site under construction fell onto moving traffic (archive link).
One person died in the incident, and a technical investigation was convened to determine the cause.
The video was also circulated on Instagram, Threads, and X, but it’s not real.
A reverse image search using keyframes on Google found the same clip shared on an Instagram account that regularly shares AI-generated content (archive link).
AFP contacted account owner Ranveer Singh, who said on February 17 that the clip was “generated within minutes” using the following method: Sora 2 AI Tools.

A closer look at the clip also found visual errors, such as unreadable text on the vehicle. A man was also heard saying in a monotone, unnatural tone, “The bridge is falling,” while everyone else was silent.
At the end of the clip, the flyover also appears undamaged.

AFP now uses AI to debunk yet more misinformation.
