AI video about Iran war could get users suspended from X

After much criticism amid the proliferation of AI-generated videos depicting missile attacks across the Middle East, X Inc. said users who try to pass off such content as authentic could face suspension from the platform.

Nikita Beer, head of product at X, said the changes primarily apply to social media platforms’ creator revenue sharing programs, which allow eligible users to earn money from their posts.

“During war, it is important that people have access to authentic information,” Beer wrote.

“With today’s AI technology, it’s easy to create content that misleads people.”

Via said that X users who create and share “AI-generated videos of armed conflict without additional disclosure that they were AI-generated” will receive a 90-day suspension from the revenue sharing program.

A second violation could lead to a permanent suspension from Elon Musk’s social media platforms.

“We will continue to refine our policies and products to ensure Company X can be trusted at these critical moments,” he said.

On Saturday, Israel and the United States launched a bombing campaign against Iran, and Tehran fired missiles at neighboring countries with American military bases.

Many social media platforms have been flooded with AI-generated videos about the Iran war, but X has previously taken a casual approach to such content, resulting in controversy and policy revisions.

This is not the first problem X has had with Iran-related news. When it changed the emoji of Iran’s flag to the pre-Islamic revolution flag featuring a lion, it was criticized as a “disturbing display of developer activity”.
