Google really wants you to feel comfortable talking to your TV. The company is adding more Gemini AI to its TV devices, including the ability to create and edit photos and videos with AI using the Nano Banana and Veo 3 models.
The company made the announcement Monday at CES 2026, the world's largest consumer technology show. CNET is on the scene at the show in Las Vegas, covering all the emerging trends and future technologies, including humanoid robots, better alternatives to chatbots, and the path to flying cars.
Google originally integrated its AI assistant into the TV viewer experience last fall, and this new update gives it even more ways to use AI. You can now chat with Gemini just like you do through your phone or laptop. You can easily activate the AI, represented by the star icon that appears at the bottom of the screen. You can ask Gemini for recommendations on what to watch next, adjust brightness and volume, display images from Google Photos, and answer questions like a chatbot with links to YouTube videos.

Here's what happens when you use Gemini with Google TV: It's very similar to using Gemini on your phone or laptop.
Gemini will also suggest follow-up search questions to dig deeper. It feels like you're using Gemini on a much larger screen.
Create AI media on Google TV using Nano Banana and Veo 3.
Google invested heavily in generative media last year with its flagship AI image and video models, nano banana and Veo 3, sparking awe among fans. Veo 3 was the first major model to feature video-synced audio, and nano Banana Pro is amazing for editing and creating photorealistic images. Google has integrated these models into its products, such as Google Photos. Now it's appearing on TV.

With compatible TV devices, you can pull photos from your Google Photos account and remix them on your big TV screen. If you've ever used the Google Photos app to remix images on your phone, things will look familiar. Give your photos different aesthetics like oil paintings or art deco, and save AI-edited images to Google Photos.
If you want to see it on a bigger screen, you can edit your photos using Gemini on your TV.
You can also create your own AI images and videos on your TV if you wish. You can scan the QR code, upload a reference photo from your phone, and say the prompts aloud to your TV. While some people may prefer to create on a larger screen, I think the most common examples are people who want to create in groups, such as parents entertaining young children or parties. No need to crowd around your phone or laptop.
These Gemini AI features are available on TVs running Android TV OS 14 or later, and generation restrictions apply. The new feature will be available first on select TCL devices and will roll out to more Google devices in the coming months.
