AI-powered segregation insights: Waste intelligence

Machine Learning

Through a partnership with consumer health company Kenvue, Greyparrot expanded its AI-powered waste intelligence platform to apply machine learning and image recognition technology to analyze packaging performance at commercial recycling facilities. The collaboration will use Greyparrot’s Deepnest system to monitor packaging flows in real time, classify materials, and measure how components such as labels, pumps, and material types impact sorting and recovery rates.

The platform provides Kenvue facility-level data on contamination, packaging flow, and recyclability outcomes across its UK and US facilities by creating a digital twin of its operational recycling system. This insight helps packaging teams evaluate design changes before producing prototypes, while also preparing for stricter regulations related to packaging waste and Extended Producer Responsibility frameworks.

For consumers and brands, this technology can improve the recyclability of packaging and increase transparency around real-world recycling results. The partnership reflects a broader shift toward AI-driven recycling intelligence and digital twin systems that help companies optimize their circular packaging strategies using operational data rather than theoretical models.
