AI is fast, but quantum AI may not be able to stop. One stock I own now.

AI For Business

Key Points

The cutting edge artificial intelligence (AI) models are extremely powerful, but training and execution are computationally intensive. Today's biggest AI models require a cluster of powerful data center graphics processing units (GPUs). AI can solve many types of problems and answer many types of questions, but the technology is still wrong and can get off the rails.

Some of the limitations of current AI technology could potentially be overcome in quantum computing. Quantum computers use the stochastic properties of qubits or qubits to exponentially speed up certain types of calculations. No company has ever been able to build commercially viable quantum computers, but many are working towards that goal.

Quantum Pioneer

International Business Machines(NYSE: IBM) It's one of them. IBM has been conducting fundamental research on quantum computing for decades, with a roadmap leading to large-scale fault quantum systems by 2029. The company already generates $1 billion worth of quantum computing-related businesses, providing access to a fleet of quantum computers for organizations eager to test new technologies.

IBM demonstrated the first computer based on quantum principles in 1998, assembled hydrogen and chlorine atoms and successfully sorted the list of unordered items. Almost 30 years later, Quantum Computing remains unavailable in the real world, but immeasurable advances have been made. IBM's latest quantum computer is the top 100 qubits, exceeding 1,000 qubits in 2027 and 2,000 qubits in 2033.

IBM is actively researching how quantum computing technology can be applied to machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. In 2021, the company's researchers developed a quantum algorithm that could provide exponential speedups for specific classes of machine learning classification problems.

When quantum computers with large scale fault suppression become a reality, technology could revolutionize a variety of fields, including AI. Training AI models is a time-consuming, computationally intensive process that involves a huge amount of data. Quantum computers can accelerate processes and reduce the costs of AI training. Quantum computing also speeds up AI inference and can lead to better results.

Enterprise AI and quantum computing in one package

While other tech giants are working on quantum computing and AI technology, IBM's long track record in quantum computing and its successful enterprise AI business will become a powerful force in the quantum AI era.

IBM has booked $7.5 billion worth of businesses related to generator AI, much of which comes from the company's consulting department. IBM's AI consulting pairing covering implementations and other services, as well as AI software primarily on the Watsonx platform, has proven to be the winners among enterprise clients. Similar stories can arise when Quantum Computing becomes commercially viable.

While IBM may not look like the most cutting-edge high-tech company, it is well positioned in both AI and quantum computing. Once quantum computing technology matures and is finally applied to AI, IBM is almost certain to be in its thick state.
