Allianz taps Anthropic to bring AI to insurance operations

Allianz plans to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) across its insurance operations around the world with support from Anthropic.

The financial services provider and the AI ​​startup have formed a global partnership to make this happen, with the first projects already underway, the companies said in a press release on Friday (9 January).

The companies plan to add Anthropic's Claude model to Allianz's internal AI platform, which will be available to everyone within Allianz. According to the release, these applications include Claude Code, which helps Allianz developers develop software, and Model Context Protocols (MCP), which helps employees integrate data sources across different applications.

The company is also developing custom AI agents to orchestrate multi-step workflows and automate labor-intensive processes such as intake paperwork and claims processing, while also enabling Allianz employees to handle sensitive and complex cases, the release said.

According to the release, the third area in which Allianz and Anthropic will collaborate is the joint development of an AI system that records every decision, rationale, and data source to ensure that AI-driven actions are traceable and compliant with regulations.

“With this partnership, Allianz takes a decisive step towards addressing the significant challenges of AI in insurance,” Allianz SE CEO Oliver Bethe said in a release. “Anthropic’s focus on safety and transparency complements our strong dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust.”

Anthropic CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei said in a release that the insurance industry is a particularly high-risk industry for the use of AI.

“Both Allianz and Anthropic take this very seriously and look forward to working together to make insurance better for the people who depend on it,” Amodei said.

Anthropic announced in September that it had more than 300,000 business accounts, its Claude Code tools for developers generated more than $500 million in run-rate revenue, and that overall run-rate revenue exceeded $5 billion in August, up from about $1 billion in early 2025.
