AI gives the power to certified public accountants, says ICAI president

Pune: The increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionised the accounting profession, with chartered accountants (CAS) becoming more technically proficient and ready for the future, says Ca Charanjot Singh Nanda. He is the president of the Association of Certified Public Accountants of India (ICAI) and was speaking at the first session of Pune's AI Innovation Summit 2025.The two-day national summit was based on the theme of “change in accounting, auditing, tax and governance,” and was held at Baner by ICAI and attended by over 1,000 CA members, students and senior officials. “AI is the future. Certified Indian accountants must learn not only to understand this technology, but to make the most of its potential. ICAI has launched a structured certificate training program and has incorporated AI into its CA curriculum since 2027. So far, over 500 AI training sessions have been held and 25,000 CAS training has been conducted nationwide,” Nanda said.ICAI Vice Chairman Prasanna Kumar D said that AI has become inseparable from the accounting profession.“There is no alternative to adapt to AI. CAS and many students already use these tools. We need to dismiss fears about job losses.
