Experts believe that AI innovation needs to move forward with strong protection of intellectual property to ensure creators are fairly compensated while the technology continues to grow responsibly in India.In this context, the research paper titled “Understanding Intellectual Property Protection Issues Surrounding Rapid Technological Advancements Like Generative AI” brought international recognition to academics from Uttar Pradesh Institute of Forensic Medicine and Lucknow University Faculty of Law.
This study compares how different countries are addressing these challenges. The European Union has introduced regulations such as GDPR and the EU AI Act 2024 to ensure transparency and protect the rights of creators. The United States only recognizes copyrights for human authors, not works generated by AI. There is still legal debate in the UK about the use of copyrighted material to train AI systems. The paper also examines the Indian situation through cases such as ANI vs. OpenAI and DNPA vs. OpenAI, where news organizations alleged misappropriation of content.
