AI-generated video falsely claims to show giant CM Punjabi statue in Lahore

Multiple online posts have shared an alleged video of a giant statue of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif being built in Lahore. Some social media accounts seem to believe that the statue is actually being erected.

That claim is false. The video clip was generated using artificial intelligence tools.

Claim

On November 25, a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared an eight-second video that appears to show a sculpture of CM Mariam towering over a busy roundabout. A user captioned the video in Urdu: “Punjab Chief Minister’s masterpiece sculpture is in final stages of completion.”

A similar video is also spreading on TikTok here, here and here.

The video circulating online was created using publicly available artificial intelligence (AI) tools and does not show the real statue of Punjab CM Maryam under construction.

Checking geographical facts We tested the clips for authenticity using Hive Moderation, an AI content detection platform.

Hive moderation gave the video a high overall score of 99.9%, indicating that the clip contained AI-generated or deepfake content.

Attestiv, a digital media forensics tool, also gave the video a tampering score of 100, meaning it is not a genuine recording.

Punjab Information Minister Asma Zahid Bokhari said: Checking geographical facts That the video is “fake” and “generated by AI.”

verdict: The video, which claims to show CM Mariam’s sculpture under construction, is entirely AI-generated and does not represent the actual structure.
