Hainoi — AI tools are taking the world by storm, and Vietnam is no exception. Businesses and individuals are getting more and more accustomed to new technology.
“Vietnamese users respond relatively well to ChatGPT. This could be a welcome signal for the narrative of AI development and application in Vietnam,” said AI Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hoài, Director of Academy Việt Nam said.
Nguyễn Vũ Anh, CEO of Cốc Cốc, a popular web browser and search engine in Vietnam, said many local users use ChatGPT on their browsers every day.
He estimates that Vietnam currently has 500,000 ChatGPT users every day.
“This is a huge number, especially considering OpenAI is restricting ChatGPT in the Vietnamese market,” says Anh.
According to Finbold data, the global AI market is estimated to be valued at US$208 billion this year and could reach US$1.87 trillion by 2030.
The global AI market is expected to exceed US$1 trillion for the first time in 2028.
Nonetheless, experts say Vietnamese companies face many challenges to gain an edge in the AI application race.
According to Associate Professor Nguyễn Xuân Hoài, technology in general is changing rapidly, but AI is an area of particular interest to businesses.
“Today we are talking about ChatGPT, AI in general, but in three or five years we may be talking about something else entirely. ,” he added.
ChatGPT has already made a strong impression, and many ordinary people are familiar with how it works, he said.
While businesses and individuals in Vietnam are excited about the possibilities, they are also apprehensive about the new technology.
They are happy that AI is not a technology they do not understand and that they can apply it to improve their productivity and quality of life.
The flip side is that AI is already attracting the attention of the world’s biggest companies.
As AI enters the competition on a large scale, a fierce battle begins in which the winner grabs a large share of the market.
This is clearly demonstrated in the case of OpenAI and Microsoft’s ChatGPT.
Shortly after ChatGPT’s launch, big players like Google and Facebook quickly stepped in and launched their own products, but none of them could steal the limelight from ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is already being used to build new products, business models, financial strategies, and more.
Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hoài said, “For Vietnamese companies, there will be no right or wrong, only choices. If we choose a global strategy, it will be very difficult to compete with overseas big tech. Vietnam is not alone in this situation, many other countries are also facing it.”
We can choose to stand on the shoulders of giants and compete, he said.
“AI models such as ChatGPT are still very new. Hoai said the model needs to be improved.
A third option, he explained, is to do things differently. For example, in agriculture, AI software is used to identify rice grains in Japan and the United States, but rice in Vietnam is different, so we cannot use existing tools and develop our own solutions for the local market. need to develop.
Furthermore, if a more global perspective is desired, companies should choose a “niche way,” build application support systems, and put AI into practice, he said.
There is one thing we can all agree on. The system must ensure several standards of safety, security and compliance with national regulations. — VNS
