The Ministry of Transport has concluded that the number of deaths due to accidents and law violations has decreased since the artificial intelligence cameras started working.

The average daily death toll from traffic accidents in the state dropped from 12 to eight from June 5 to June 9.
The Department of Motor Vehicles said the number of lawbreakers has also decreased. There were 1,21,681 violations detected on June 6, compared with 87,675 violations detected on June 7 and an even lower 79,525 on June 8. A total of 3,52,730 violations were detected by cameras from June 5 to 8.
Keltron, which verifies detections, uploaded 19,790 cases to its Integrated Traffic Monitoring System, and the Department of Motor Vehicles issued challans for 10,457 violations.
Seat belt
Of the violations, 7,896 were committed by vehicle passengers not wearing seat belts. 6,153 boarded without helmets and 715 were passengers without helmets
A total of 400,000 violations were detected during the experimental operation of the cameras.
Transport Minister Anthony Raju said instructions had been given to Keltron, including an increase in personnel, to increase the infrastructure for registering detected violations in the integrated transport surveillance system.
Since its inauguration in April, parliament has filed corruption charges against the Safe Kerala project, which aims to reduce traffic accidents and violations in the state.
The camera went live on June 5th, two months after the start of the Rs 232 crore project.
The Kerala government had signed an agreement with Keltron for the project in 2020.
In April this year, Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan launched the ‘Safe Kerala’ project, which includes the installation of AI cameras, aimed at reducing traffic accidents and traffic violations in the state.
