The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indian healthcare will see around 23 per cent of current roles being replaced by AI by 2028 and create millions of new jobs, a report said on Tuesday.
According to recruitment consultancy TeamLease Digital, the total number of healthcare workers is expected to grow from 7.5 million today to 9 million by 2027, of which 1-2% will be tech professionals. Advances in telehealth, virtual assistants and data analytics are expected to drive demand for talent such as data scientists and AI specialists, creating between 2.7 million and 3.5 million new tech jobs.

Overall employment by the healthcare sector is expected to grow by 25 percent by 2028. “The expected surge in technology jobs is as the healthcare industry embraces and leverages technological advancements. We expect a 33 percent increase in demand for technology talent in FY25 compared to an average growth rate of 15-20 percent in FY23-24. Roles such as data scientists, developers, cybersecurity professionals, technology development engineers, quality testing, and design are on the rise,” said Munira Roliwala, AVP, Strategy & Growth, TeamLease Digital.

TeamLease predicts that India's medtech market will grow at an annual growth rate of 22% to reach $35.8 billion by 2030. The digital health market is expected to expand from $12.2 billion in 2023 to $25.64 billion by 2027. Medical devices and digital applications could contribute up to $4.9 billion and $5.2 billion in combined revenue to the overall digital health market.
