According to the Naukri JobSpeak report, despite the overall market being conservatistic, the healthcare, hospitality and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors experienced significant year-on-year job growth in 2024.
The survey results show that senior professionals and premium job seekers are in highest demand, with new AI-related job postings in January 2024 up 12% from last year.
Naukri reports that hiring for AI professionals is on the rise, with Machine Learning Engineers growing an impressive 46% year-over-year and Full-Stack AI Scientists growing an impressive 23%. Traditional AI roles such as Data Scientist were also very popular. By comparison, IT jobs grew just 1% month-over-month in January 2024.
According to Naukri, year-on-year hiring in the IT sector is currently down 19% compared to its peak in January 2023. In January 2024, hiring in the healthcare sector increased 7% year-on-year, with management roles seeing the highest demand. The travel and hospitality sector saw hiring increase 5% year-on-year. Continued growth in domestic and international tourism is driving demand for restaurant managers and service managers.
According to Naukri data, hiring in the industry has increased significantly in urban areas of Bangalore and Mumbai. In January this year, job openings in the FMCG sector increased by 5% compared to the same month in 2023. Increased demand in rural areas backed by marketing campaigns by FMCG companies has led to a positive trend in hiring in the industry. There has been a huge demand for positions such as assembly line operators, factory foremen, production engineers and production managers in the FMCG sector.
Naukri said the BPO and insurance sectors saw job losses, down 16 percent and 8 percent, respectively, while the education and retail sectors both contracted 7 percent year-on-year.
According to Naukri, new job openings with an annual salary of over Rs 200,000 increased by 18%. New job opportunities with an annual salary between Rs 1.3 million and Rs 2 million declined slightly by 1%. Additionally, new job openings with an annual salary of less than Rs 1.2 million also saw a decline.
Additionally, Naukri reported that senior professionals with 16 years or more of experience saw the highest increase in job openings, with hiring in this particular field increasing by a staggering 19% in the latest month compared to the same month last year.
According to their analysis, new job opportunities for professionals with 13-16 years of experience increased by about 2%. However, professionals with 8-12 years of experience, professionals with 4-7 years of experience, and recent graduates saw a decline in the number of new positions created of 18%, 7%, and 10%, respectively, compared to January 2023.
