A YouTuber who posted a fake AI video that appeared to have been shot with a body camera was arrested by police officers who responded to the scene after calling 112.

The Cyber ​​Investigation Team of the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency announced on the 2nd that they had arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of violating the Telecommunications Basic Act. Mr. A runs a YouTube channel called “Patrol 24 Hours,” and is suspected of posting AI videos that appear to have been filmed using a police body camera at crime scenes, such as “dispatching a woman dressed as a woman into the locker room” and “video of a Chinese man being arrested for assault.”

Mr. A wrote in the introduction of his channel that it was “AI based on a true story and has nothing to do with actual police,” but there was no notice on each individual video that it was a fake video created by AI, and the watermark indicating videos created by AI was also removed. These videos were distributed in the form of short videos on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, and have been viewed more than 30 million times in total.

In addition, during the investigation, the police discovered that Mr. A participated in unauthorized private gift transactions and operating crimes such as the Overseas Gift Investment Reading Room, became a so-called “windmill,” received money, and turned over 30 million won for personal use. He also operated a paid membership social networking service (SNS) channel and made money by producing and selling AI pornography.

Police have designated October of this year as a period for intensive crackdowns on crimes related to false information that undermine community trust, and are focusing on cracking down on cases like Mr. A’s.
