Guwahati: A storm of criticism erupted after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assamese forces released AI-generated videos of Islamophobia on their official social media platforms.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the video depicting members of the Muslim community has taken over government land and public spaces and is widely criticized by citizens, journalists and activists.
The video entitled “Assam without BJP” shows Muslims occupying Guwahati Airport, Langars, Stadiums and an exaggerated number of towns. It also includes images of linking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with Pakistani officials, implicitly linking political parties with Pakistan.
Hyderabad MP and chief of all India Majris Ittehad Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaddin Owaisi criticized the video denounced the BJP for its Muslim-free Indian purpose.
Taking to X, Owaisi said, “BJP Assam has posted a disgusting AI video showing the majority of Muslim Assam in the absence of BJP. They are not scared just by votes. India.”
“This video is an attempt to spread hatred and fear towards Muslim brothers and sisters,” says Farhan Ahmed, who says, “It's deeply plagued that political parties use such divisive tactics to target their communities.”
The post sparked an immediate backlash online after many social media users, including BJP supporters, criticising the party for what they called “despicable behaviour.” The video noted that it appears to be designed to disrupt community harmony and trigger prejudice against Muslims.
“This is exactly why people fear community politics,” commented Saima Begum, a resident of Guwahati. “We live in a diverse society and it is irresponsible to portray Muslims as occupying public spaces. It spreads hatred and mistrust.”
Similar instances have occurred in other states. The BJP Jharkhand unit previously released a video in which Muslims allegedly occupying private homes, leading to accusations that the party is using Islamophobia to gain political advantage.
