A Bengaluru woman lost Rs 3.75 to the con artist between February 25th and April 23rd. The scammer tricked her using Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev's Deepfake video, which promotes the stock trading platform.
The complaint filed by the 57-year-old resident of CV Ramannagar said she doesn't know about the celebrity's deepfake videos. Between February and April, social media platforms were flooded with multiple fake ads featuring Sadhguru using AI-generated audio. In June this year, the Delhi High Court passed an order granting protection of moral rights from a Rogue website that uses AI to impersonate him.
While scrolling on the phone, the woman came across a reel that Sadhguru invested in stocks and improved her financial situation by investing just $250. She began investing in believing this was a real Sadgul. Without knowledge of such fraud, she clicked on the link on the reel, a media report cited by investigators said. a The era of India I said, this led her to the page and asked for personal details such as her name, phone number, email ID and more. She was then contacted by someone named “Waleed B.”
Representatives were texting her from +44 753731307, +44 74419588898, +44 770142144, +44 7441941614 and other figures, the report said. She was then added to a WhatsApp group that contained around 100 members and was asked to download an app called Mirrox.
She was taught to trade by Wreed through Zoom. She was later contacted by her replacement tutor, Micheal C. They were fooled by investing women by sharing their investment and profit details and posting screenshots of money being credited to their account. The con man offered her a bank account, which is why she was asked to transfer the money. The platform showed that she had a high return. When she tried to withdraw the money she had invested, the scammer asked for additional payments, such as processing fees and taxes. The scammer stopped responding to her when she refused to pay.
The woman reportedly transferred money in multiple transactions. She provided the police with details.
