However, in addition, employment in the broader IT sector fell by 5%.

Overall employment in May remained stable, according to the report. Some industries have grown better than last year. The real estate sector recorded a 5% growth that month. Similarly, the insurance sector recorded a growth of 6%.

The New Age Banking and Financial Services sector recorded significant employment growth in May. The report found that employment in the sector's unicorns rose 29% that month. Meanwhile, the traditional banking and financial services sector, along with retail and communications, recorded an 8-9% decline in employment in May.

Most preferred cities

New metropolitan cities are emerging as new highling hotspots in the IT sector. Cities like Hyderabad and Kochi witnessed an increase of 7% and 8% in New Highling, respectively. Additionally, the majority of employment growth in these cities is attributed to senior and medium-sized employment.

Pune's employment growth was driven by employment in the startup sector. The city recorded employment growth of 4% in May. However, employment at Pune-based startups rose 26% in the same month.
