Mumbai: Popular Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has become the latest target of deepfake technology. An AI-generated video of Singh endorsing a political party went viral on social media.
The original video captured Singh visiting Varanasi where he spoke about his spiritual experiences. However, the video had been edited to make it appear as if Mr. Singh was promoting his political party in the run-up to the 2024 Sabah state election.
Singh reacted to the viral video and urged his fans to be wary of deepfakes. “Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn (beware of deepfakes, friends),” he wrote to X.
Get rid of deep fakes 💀

This incident follows a similar incident involving Aamir Khan, where a video promoting a political party was also found to be a deepfake. Khan had filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Controller of the Mumbai Police after the video was leaked online.
Singh was last seen in the film 'Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahaani' and is gearing up to play the role of the iconic don in director Farhan Akhtar's next film. Kiara Advani will star opposite Singh in the film, following in the footsteps of acting legends Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, who previously played the role of Singh.
